Govt. Degree College, Pattikonda was started in Pattikonda in 1988. Initially there were no Science Groups in the College. In 1998 M.P.C. group in Telugu medium was introduced consisting Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry and it was the beginning of the Department of Mathematics. At that time the department with the strength of 22 students only. Student strength was gradually increasing and at present the strength M.P.C. is about 18 and strength of M.P.Cs is about 38. In 2023 B.Sc Honours Mathematics as Major Subject and Computer science as Minor.

Initially, Sri. A NageswarRao joined as a regular faculty of the department in 1999. In 2003 M.P.Cs. group in English medium was introduced. The department equipped with adequate infrastructure and learning resources like 366 library books and Computer, Printer which are all running with solar power.
